How to Unhide Apps on iPhone Devices

If an app seems to have vanished from your iPhone, don’t panic. In most cases, you’ll be glad to know that it’s definitely still installed, but just tucked away in a hidden area or removed from a page.

Ghostek will help you figure out how to unhide apps on iPhone throughout this guide - whether the app was hidden using Apple’s privacy tools or simply buried in your purchase list.

Quick Answer

On newer iPhones, hidden apps are usually just stored in the app library inside a protected Hidden folder. Apple explains that you can reach it by going past your Home Screen pages, authenticating, then removing the hidden status from the app.

Now, if the issue is somehow tied to your purchase history instead, you simply need to:

  1. Open the App Store

  2. Access your account

  3. Tap hidden purchases

Just like that, you’ll get visibility again.

Why an App May Seem to Disappear

There are a few common reasons an app no longer appears where you expect it. Let’s look at a handful of them:

  • Someone may have hidden it with Apple’s locked and hidden apps feature

  • It may still exist in the purchase history, but no longer shows publicly because it was moved into hidden purchases

  • It may simply have been removed from the main layout, leaving the app icon out of sight (even though the software is still installed)

That matters because the fix depends on what changed. A hidden app and a removed app are not the same thing. Take hidden apps, for example - these are moved to the Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library. Apps hidden from purchase history, however, stay tied to your account and can be made visible again from the App Store.

Method 1: Unhide a Hidden App from App Library

If you used Apple’s app privacy feature, your fastest route here is undoubtedly through the Hidden folder. It’s the same for all modern iPhones from the iPhone 17 Series to the iPhone Air. Just keep in mind that the folder-based "Hidden" feature in the App Library requires iOS 18 or later.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Start on the home screen

  2. Swipe left through every page until you reach App Library

  3. At the bottom, you should see the Hidden folder. Just keep in mind that hidden apps require Face ID or another approved authentication method before you can actually view them.

  4. Once you authenticate, use a long press on the app and choose the option that removes the hidden status. On supported iPhones, Apple labels that choice as Don’t Require Face ID or passcode.

  5. After that, the app returns to normal visibility in the App Library and can be added back wherever you want!

This feature is built straight into modern iOS versions, including iOS 26. It is one of the easiest privacy tools to reverse when you know where to look.

If you would rather see all hidden apps in one place first, Apple also says you can check settings and navigate to Hidden Apps to view them as a list before restoring anything.

Method 2: Unhide an App From Your App Store Purchase History

We’re aware that missing apps might not be hidden from your phone layout at all - instead, they’re hidden from your purchase history. Sound familiar? You’ll want to do the following to get them back:

  1. Launch the App Store and use the account button, your photo or your initials at the top of the screen.

  2. From there, enter your Apple Account page. Apple says you may be asked to sign in again before you can manage hidden purchases.

  3. Next, scroll until you reach Hidden Purchases, then select the app you want and tap unhide

What if the app you’re trying to recover had previously been removed from the phone? Apple says it won’t instantly jump back onto your main pages after you unhide it. What you’ll need to do here is download it again. Fortunately, you don’t need to buy it a second time!

This process works on iPhone and iPad, which is helpful if you share purchases across more than one Apple product. It is also worth remembering that Family Sharing users may stop seeing a hidden app in shared purchases until it is restored. Apple calls this out in its official explanation of what happens when purchases are hidden.

What if the App Still Doesn’t Appear?

If nothing shows in the Hidden folder, the app may not actually have been hidden in the privacy sense. It could be:

  • Sitting in a folder

  • Removed from a page

  • Fully deleted

In that situation, you’ll want to use Spotlight search or App Library to track it down. You could always just visit the App Store and reinstall it if necessary. It’s worth noting here that some built-in apps - like the Camera or Weather app, for example - can’t be hidden in the first place, so that can help narrow down the problem.

It also helps to remember that unhidden apps may return to App Library first rather than popping directly back into your preferred layout. So if that’s happened, you can just touch and hold the app, then drag it back to a visible page to place it back where you want it.

Can’t immediately find it? Start from the App Library rather than guessing! That saves a lot of time and avoids confusion.

A Few Limits to Know

Again, not every title can even be concealed in the same way - Apple says some preinstalled apps cannot be hidden, and default browser or marketplace apps in some regions may also have restrictions.

That’s why a missing Camera, Maps or device utility may be down to a layout change or restriction settling rather than actually being hidden.

If you’re someone who often reorganizes their iPhone, it is smart to keep layout changes simple. Moving too many titles around at once can make it harder to remember what happened later, especially if you were interrupted, reading comments, watching videos or jumping between tasks.

In fact, Many users report difficulty in locating apps they have downloaded on their iPhones. We often don’t even consciously remember what page that favorite app is on - it’s just muscle memory mostly.

So, a little organization goes a long way. A saved post or bookmarked note can also help you out if you need to retrace any recent changes you made.

Keep Your iPhone Easier to Manage

A clean layout makes it way easier to notice hidden content! So, create a structure that makes sense to you and keep similar tools together - you want to avoid turning every page into a dumping ground. You can also pin your most-used apps near the first page so there is less chance of missing them after a software change or accidental move.
